Published by balaspa at 12:00 am under Chicago, concerts, jazz, music, musicians Edit This

I am a big supporter of, well, just about anything I can support.  Feel free to insert your bra jokes here, if you must.  However, I am talking more about fundraising and things of that nature.  So, for me, the pick show of the week was the one below at Andy’s Bar

Thanks to radio station WDCB for the information below.

Come and help us recognize Chicago’s top health practitioners for their international work in underserved or war torn regions. This is a first annual event where all proceeds go to the training of student practitioners in the Women’s Equity to Access to Care and Treatment (WE-ACTx) clinic in Rwanda that has been providing comprehensive medical and mental health services to women and children affected by HIV and trauma since 2004. Performing Artist Jack Cassidy was born in Brooklyn, New York on July 12, 1961. His family later moved to Wheaton, Illinois where Jack began playing the trumpet in the school band. In 1983 he graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelors Degree in Jazz Studies. While at Indiana, Jack studied with famed trumpet instructor William A. Adam and Jazz Pedagogue David Baker. Upon returning home Jack began a Masters Degree in Jazz Composition at Depaul University, Chicago (1990). While at DePaul, he studied with Jazz Pianist Larry Novak and Composer/ Producer Cliff Colnot.

During these years Jack began singing and playing keyboards in his first band SYMBIA. A favorite around Chicago, SYMBIA opened for Ziggy Marley, The Gypsy Kings, Hiram Bullock and Special EFX.
