I am just in a bit of a blues mood lately, for some reason.  The cool thing about jazz and blues is that the intersect at many places.  The musicians seem to have similar attitudes.  They both play clubs that are eerily similar.  They both have similar origins.  Jazz and Blues are like brothers who just went in slightly different directions but managed to stay on speaking terms.

Otis Taylor and his band is on my mind these days too.  I have been looking ahead at the Chicago Blues Festival and the fact that this festival sort of kicks off the summer festival season around here.  Chicago manages to do the festivals right, I think.  The season kicks off with the great Chicago Blues Festival.  In the middle is now the powerhouse rock festival Lollapalooza.  Then it closes at the end of summer with the Chicago Jazz Festival.  That is a very nice balance, in my humble opinion.

I don’t know if Otis will be playing again this year.  I hope so, because seeing him and his band last year was one of the great highlights of my entire 2008.
